She looks straight at you — a woman from another era, her gaze steady and unyielding, her presence printed in warm sepia tones that speak of old photographs, faded certainties, and things not quite said. Behind her, a classical nude floats like a memory or a myth, while across her torso, translucent and insistent, a million-dollar bill presses forward, the Statue of Liberty at its center. Liberty, printed in reverse, as though seen through a mirror, or through water, or through time. Kathryn Cirincione grew up in a family of painters and muralists, made art in the streets of Medellín and the churches of Verona, and brought all of it back to her studio on the California coast. In this etching, she does what she does best — she places unrelated images side by side and leaves the silence between them for you to fill. What does it mean to be a woman in a country that puts Liberty on its money but keeps her in her place? What is a woman worth? What is worth anything at all? The warm amber light holds no easy answers, only the woman's steady gaze, waiting for yours.
